Kolkata, the city where the finals will be held, witnessed a terrifying flyover tragedy on 31 March which took the lives of at least 24 people and also left 88 injured.
All the four finalists of the ICC T20 World Cup 2016 are therefore expected to wear black armbands in order to pay respect to the victims of the gruesome incident and show their solidarity to the families of the affected.
Former India captain and the current president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), Sourav Ganguly told the press, “We have requested the teams to wear black armbands.”
The CAB is also set to show a documentary on its former president, the late Jagmohan Dalmiya, who is believed to be the main reason behind Eden Gardens hosting the final matches of the ICC T20 World Cup 2016.
The closing ceremony of this world event is reportedly going to feature Bickram Ghosh (tabla player and percussionist), Tanushree Shankar (Indian classical dancer) and Amaan Ali Khan and Ayaan Ali Khan (sitarist duo).
